Penguins, Parrots and Palm Trees!!

A little more about our last couple days in Melbourne!

This place is crazy! There are penguins living next to parrots and palm trees planted next to evergreen trees. How is this possible!

Wednesday we tried to go to the beach but it was cold (and by cold I mean like 75 degrees) and windy, so as our British friends say, we just couldn't be bothered!!

Instead we went downtown again and attempted to go shopping. However. We were distracted by the plethora of chocolate stores and spent most of the day sampling chocolate. Hey--were poor travelers, gotta get our dessert fix somehow! And we ate Vietnamese Pho (soup)...my first time, delish!

The hostel had a BBQ for dinner so we scored a free meal...they even had veggie burgers for karina (which were served by this huge German Arnold Schwarzenegger guy who didnt like to wear shirts and could probably kill a kangaroo with his bare hands)! There was a singer singing american songs at the bar that night so we used our trivia voucher and got snakebite pitchers! A snakebite is beer with soda and grenadine (I think?)...not bad! We taught our friends some American card games and then headed out to explore the city. Parents you should be so proud of us...apparently snakebites bring out all the different languages we have ever learned and we somehow spoke French, Spanish, German and Italian to people we met! We shared a cab with some Germans and I somehow got the whole cab to sing the German song Sandra (our old German babysitter) taught us back in the day...she'd be so proud!

Sadly Thursday was our last day in Melbourne. My new favorite city :-(. We didn't do much...more shopping (one of these days we'll actually buy something) and ate gelato outside at a cafe. Went to the beach for a little...figures, it's 90 degrees and sunny the day we leave.

See ya later Melbourne!
