Well folks, we made it to Australia! We landed in Sydney late last night and caught the train to our hostel. We're in a six person room and had two rude German roommates last night but apparently we're terrible roommates because they changed rooms this morning. See ya later Germany.
Were staying in an area called Kings Cross, which today we found out is the Red Light District. Aka strip clubs everywhere. Don't worry, it's safe! There are tons of little restaurants, shops and bars in the area and it's about a half hour walk or 10 minute train ride to downtown Sydney.
We were rudely awakened by the most awful screaming/screeching noise outside this morning. Turns out it was a cockatoo!! There are wild cockatoos in Australia flying around the city!! And parrots! Crazy!!
We spent the day wandering around the area, doing laundry and finally showering. Best shower I have ever taken. And the water didn't run out halfway through! Amazing!! We went to the grocery store and got some yogurt and oats for breakfast and sandwich stuff for lunch and some drinks. And Tim Tams which are the greatest cookie ever!! Chocolate on the outside with cookie and creamy filling on the inside. Delish. Our laundry was "ferrel" as the Australians would say (the coral reef bowl i found while snorkeling didn't help the situation--that's the last time I take something home from the ocean. Nasty.) but now were clean and our clothes smell great. Bring it on Australia!
